St. Irenaeus Religious Education

Our Religious education program is here to assist our diverse community of families in the spiritual upbringing of their children. Parents are the first educators of their children, by showing them a moral compass in their deeds and service. Our program is formatted to facilitate a Sacramental life for your child. By doing so our children will become outstanding participants of our faith community.

For any good education program to work communication is key. Our Parish takes this very seriously. Our pastor welcomes families to our Religious Education program by meeting personally with all of our participating families.

The Coordinator of Religious Education has office hours on days our Sunday school is in session, as well as on Wednesdays from 4:00pm until 6:00pm in the evening. Our Parish has incorporated the Remind App so all families can have contact with each other as well as their childs catechist and coordinator.

If you have any questions about our program please email us at stirenaeusre@gmail.com or call Religious Education Office at (708) 748-7997.

Letter From Father Terry and Katrina Seifert, CRE

August 19, 2020

Dear Religious Education Families,

I hope this letter finds all of you healthy and doing well.  This year has been challenging for everyone to say the least. Here at St. Irenaeus we have been working diligently toward planning a school year that will keep our students safe. while deepening their relationship with Christ. Our program is an eight-year program to prepare your child for their Sacramental life.

This year our program will be done virtually using the zoom platform. Classes will be held the first and third Wednesday of the month, starting October 7, 2020. Students will be placed in groups by grade with three Catechists per grouping.  Registration information is available on our parish website and can be emailed or mailed to you by request.  Due to the additional family involvement that is required for virtual learning all students will be eligible for the volunteer family rate for the year 2020-2021.

We will have a Family Kick Off night on September 30, 2020. Every family that registers will be given a designated time for a brief meeting with their Catechist and to pick up their books. All books fees must be paid at the time of pick up.

The following is the schedule for our Wednesday evening classes:

Grades

Class Time

Kindergarten-Second

5:15-5:45 PM

Third-Fifth

6:00-6:45 PM

Sixth - Confirmation II

7:00-7:45 PM

Religious education is an important part of our children’s upbringing and we the parents are our children’s first true Catechists.  While planning this school year we tried to keep in mind the daily stress that our families are dealing with during this time. Our Catechists are here for you to support you in raising your child in the Catholic Faith.

This year brings new challenges but with it an opportunity to grow our program in new and exciting ways. Our Catechists and I are extremely excited for this school year to try new things and to see all our students again.  As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Christ,

Katrina Seifert
