First Holy Communion and Reconciliation

Preparation for First Communion and Reconciliation

The St. Irenaeus Religious Education program prepares your child for their Sacraments in several ways. Our students begin their journey with an enrollment Mass. At this Mass they will be blessed by their Parish community. Our students, parents and guardians meet with our Pastor and Religious Education Coordinator to receive information that will be vital for their preparation to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion.

Our Catechists help your child understand the importance of the Sacraments that they are to receive. They reiterate the religious education that your child receives at home. In class, your child will learn with and from their peers. Class participation is essential. Therefore, any child who is preparing for a sacrament can not be absent for three or more classes.

Our program strives to provide the best religious education for our students.  Students who will be receiving their sacraments will attend a spiritual retreat that familiarizes the student with their Church.  Our goal is for our students to grow spiritually and to comfortably receive their Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Communion.

If you have any questions in regards to when your child should receive these Sacraments, or our policies, please contact our religious education office.
